Record that Special Moment with Ringcam

ring-503503__180It’s an adorable idea. You want to capture your romantic wedding proposal on film, but you can’t always have a videographer hiding in the woods when you’re ready to propose. You can, however, have the ringcam. This device has a built in wide angle lens and a hidden microphone and it can be plugged into a computer to download the adorable footage.

The box looks like a regular jewelry box. The camera is hidden on the lid and there is a button on the top of the box that starts and stops the video recording. There is a USB port on the side of the box for charging the camera and transferring the film.

The box can be rented for three weeks so that people can plan their big proposal and have their camera ready.

Howling for Your Lost Phone

Those of us who are constantly misplacing things could use Woolet. For $99, the pouch syncs to your phone over Bluetooth and will help you to locate your wallet or other item if you’ve lost or misplaced it. It includes an alert to your phone, a built in distance tracker and even a howling alarm that can help you to find the location of the missed item.

Woolet is the brainchild of Wooletco, a Delaware-based company that has raised almost $160,000 on Kickstarter. It has a mini-sensor on it and the phone will vibrate to warn the owner if the phone or another item is lost. The app will show the owner the wallet’s last recorded location. And, believe it or not, the Woolet can send signals to other Woolet owners to relay the exact location.

As the designers said, “Woolet is just 9.9mm thin, yet ready for anything. Unlike other smart wallets, Woolet is a ‘full wallet’. This means you don’t need to compromise on what you take. [Plus] batteries are an essential component of any smart device but are also often its weakest component. That’s why we designed self-charging batteries to provide dependable power that lasts.”

Woolets can be pre-ordered from Kickstarter and the products are expected to ship in May.

Buy Your Own Wild West Town

You, too, could feel like you live in the Wild West and own your own little town. The town in Valley Center, San Diego was created for advertising and movies. It’s now up for grabs for a family that wants to enjoy their own two bedroom house, general store, saloon and jail.

They are asking for $900,000 for the purchase of the entire area which also includes a blacksmith and a barbershop. The house is decked out in country Western items and includes a stone fireplace and two wood burning stoves.

The town loves its country theme. Once a year, they close down the town for an event known as Valley Center Western Days. Typically held over Memorial Day weekend, the even includes a community parade, a festival and a stampede rodeo.

Sleep Changes Lead to Weight Gain in Teenagers

popcorn-155602_640Can a lack of sleep really make you fat? Well, it in itself may not make you pile on the pounds, but it can have a direct influence on your desire to eat more. Sleeping for even an hour less a day can cause people to eat more.

Researchers at Penn State University College of Medicine looked at the sleep patterns of 342 teenagers and found that, on average, they slept seven hours a night. When this amount of sleep varied, however, they ate about 201 extra calories a day.

Now, what may be even more surprising than this is that it wasn’t only when they slept less that they ate more – if they slept more they also ate more.

Lead author Fan He explained, “According to the data from our study, it’s not how long you sleep that matters. It’s about day-to-day variations in how long you sleep.’

This study could have earth-shattering implications. It’s the first to objectively measure teenager sleeping patterns and physical activity in conjunction with eating habits in the real world, rather than under laboratory conditions.

One explanation that researchers offered is that when teenagers get less sleep, they are more sedentary the next day. And this can lead to snacking. Another idea is that shifts in sleep patterns result in hormonal imbalances which can cause teenagers to eat more.

Another important point is that Leptin works to decrease the appetite, but a lack of sleep causes these levels to go down and to signal to the brain to eat.

Dr Fe said “These findings could help us better understand how obesity develops among young people.”
