The Super Bowl is Going to the Dogs…Sort Of.

Published by James Fishman on January 24th, 2012

This year’s Super Bowl commercial looks like it will be quite interesting.  Animals have been used in previous such commercials, but this year Volkswagen is teaming up with some furry friends along with an untraditional rendition of Star Wars music! Last year a child was dressed up as Darth Vader with the Star Wars music in the background.  But this year is going to be quite different…

The difference this year is that there will not be a child dressed up, but several dogs decked out in Star Wars clothing. But, instead of listening to the actual Star Wars theme tune, you will be privy to hearing the dogs barking the Star Wars theme song!

There is a teaser video for those who cannot believe this is actually going to happen.  And for those who want to wait for a surprise, they can enjoy the full version of it at the upcoming Super Bowl.

Footballer Meets Actress: Beckham and Vergara Merger

Published by James Fishman on April 21st, 2011

What happens when a famous successful footballer joins forces with a model-actress for an advertising campaign?  David Beckham, possibly “one of the most famous faces in the world,” has just joined Sofia Vergara (“Gloria” star of Modern Family) for a Pepsi 30-second commercial.

In the ad, the stunning 38-year-old Columbian sees a youngster sipping from a Pepsi can and thus herself craves it too.  Twitter to the rescue, she writes, “At the pier…just saw @David Beckham.”  This gets everyone looking for the famed 35-year-old footballer while “Gloria” gets her refreshing Pepsi drink.

But it’s more than just Pepsi that the viewers get as they get quite the view of the stunning Columbian’s butt as she goes to get her refreshment.  Once with the drink she goes back to the serious business of getting a tan, but is shocked when she finds Beckham kicking a football towards her.  At the end of the commercial Vergara sips her Pepsi.

The commercial boasts more than the two famous individuals.  The soundtrack to the 30-second ad is by popular US Jazz singer Sarah Vaughan, “Whatever Lola Wants.”

And if you can’t wait to see it on your screens, click here for the latest commercial from Pepsi.

Horseback Riding- a Healthy Pastime

Published by Angie Burns on November 14th, 2010

Horseback riding is often considered a fun, relaxing activity or a necessary part of people’s daily routines. People don’t always realize, however, that horseback riding can be a very effective exercise. No, the horse is not the only one who is working hard when you are riding- in fact, the health benefits of riding are so extraordinary that a Japanese company invented an exercise machine which simulates the motions of a horse.

Horseback riding strengthens the core muscles in a unique way, and the trunk and limb muscles are used to maintain balance throughout the entire ride. Back, thigh, arm and stomach muscles are also toned while controlling balance as well as directing the horse on the ride. Posture can be greatly improved by riding, as the correct riding position is one of shoulders held back and a straight spine. Your joints can also benefit if used correctly during this activity. Six calories are burned per minute while merely riding at a walking pace. At a canter pace, riding can help oxygenate the blood, extend breathing, improve circulation and heighten metabolism speed. Grooming the horse leads to toned arms and better balance as well.

Horseback riding is also often used as a therapy for people with disabilities. Balance, coordination, spatial awareness and general motor development are greatly improved, and, while being in control of something other than himself, the rider learns to be more sensitive to his surroundings and to react faster. Building a consistent relationship with a horse through riding and grooming can also teach people of trust and loyalty.

In general, the exposure to fresh air is beneficial to a person’s health, too. Studies have shown that regular outdoor activities and exposure to animals can boost the immune system and improve moods.

Warning: Coaching May Be Dangerous to Your Health

Published by Angie Burns on September 20th, 2010

Many people don’t realize just how stressful being a sports coach truly is.  Michigan State Coach Mark Dantonio had a heart attack this week, following Saturday’s overtime victory against Notre Dame.  Winning can truly be hazardous to your health in the coaching field.

Certainly, heredity and physical health play roles in your heart’s health, but so do your lifestyle and pressures.  Football coaches earn their big bucks with incredibly long hours of coaching and worries about recruiting and future potentials for the team.

Certainly, other coaches should take heed of the lesson from Coach Mark Dantonio and focus as much on their health as they do on their game.
