Professor Christian Cortez-Rojo of the Michoacan University has conducted several studies of avocados, and discovered that their oil may have more health benefits than previously believed.
The fruit contains potent anti-oxidants, which the scientists believe can counteract the effects of diseases like hypertension and diabetes. These conditions, as well as pollution, radiation and other external dangers, damage the mitochondria and loose stressful ‘free radicals’ into the body’s cells. These toxins are also associated with the aging process.
According to Cortez-Rojo, avocado oil is highly effective in protecting cell walls, even in high concentration of free radicals. This means that the substance may be key to treating or even preventing diseases that affect the body’s mitochondria.
