Jamie Tisch Cares About Cancer Research

Published by Rachel Forsythe on September 2nd, 2010

There is an old saying that there are two kinds of people in the world: “There are those that complain about things, and then there are those that do something about those things.” There is no question that Jamie Tisch belongs in the ‘doer’ category.  Back in the year 2003 Ms. Tisch was tired of hearing all the bad news about cancer, and decided it was time for her to do something about it. That year Jamie Tisch, along with several other co-founders, created the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. This fund is an arm of the larger Entertainment Industry Foundation Program, which is one of the premier charities in Hollywood.

Because of Jamie Tisch’s dedication and hard work the WCRF has helped to create one of the most promising and ambitious research projects presently worked on. This enterprise is known as the Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project and its goal is to discover a simple blood test which can easily and quickly diagnose breast cancer and other cancer’s specific to women. The hope is that if the cancer is discovered in its very earliest stages curing the disease will be that much easier.

In addition to her work with the WCRF, Jamie Tisch has also co-sponsored events for the prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, including acting as a co-chairwoman of the Third Annual Spring Ball which took place in May of 2010. The Ball helped raise at least $1.4 million for MSKCC, to be used to further the many research projects at the prestigious hospital.

We wonder where Jamie Tisch will be putting her considerable energies next, but wherever it is, having a ‘doer’ around is certainly a good thing.
