Indiana State Fair Begins in Disaster: Four Dead

Strong winds shocked the crowd and attendees at the Indiana State Fair on Saturday night, knocking over the stage and killing four. Forty people were injured at the fair as well, just moments before country duo Sugarland began their show.

They Need Your Strength

Shortly after the event the band Tweeted “We are all right. We are praying for our fans, and the people of Indianapolis. We hope you’ll join us. They need your strength.”

On tour with Sugarland is Sara Bareilles. She has just finished her performance when the stage collapsed, and she also reacted on Twitter later last night. “I’m speechless and feel so helpless. Please send love and prayers to Indianapolis tonight. My heart aches for the lives lost,” she wrote.

Fair Temporarily Closed

Indiana State Police confirmed the four deaths, and state police Sgt. Dave Bursten said “I want to be very frank that there could be other deaths” as well. He added that the fair has been temporarily closed, but is expected to open again on Monday with a service in honor of the victims.
